Silverton Colorado

Silverton is an old mining town left over from the silver rush days in Colorado. Now it is the hub for high alpine recreation in the San Juan Mountains. Off-road enthusiasts will love the access hundred of miles of dirt roads through rugged mountains. Silverton is also the terminus for the Historic Durango Silverton Train.

Alpine Loop 4×4 Trail

The Alpine Loop is a rugged Colorado Scenic Byway. 4×4 is require to navigate the rough roads that climb over two 12,000 foot tall mountain passes, Engineer and Cinnamon. The scenery is breathtaking.

4th of July Fireworks

One of the biggest summer events in Silverton is the 4th of July Fireworks Show. People travel from miles around to see this unique show. The sound alone of the fireworks echoing off the walls of surrounding mountains is breathtaking.

Upper Animas Whitewater Rafting

The Animas River runs through Silverton as a small stream but quickly grows from side creeks pouring in. It then descends through the San Juan Mountains and becomes fast moving continuous whitewater.
